Your entire body perspires more when the temperature rises, including your feet. Feet odour or even diseases like athlete’s foot can result from wearing closed-toe shoes in hot weather or while perspiring a lot.
The bacteria that dwell on your skin and in your shoes devour the perspiration to produce foot odour and illnesses. Since bacteria, fungus, and all those adorable tiny bugs enjoy heat, moisture, and darkness—and the inside of your shoe is the greatest location for it to happen—this generates an acid byproduct that smells bad.
Here are some suggestions for how to put a halt to the stink:
1. Soak your feet
More than a fast shower will suffice to thoroughly clean your feet. Your feet should be soaked in either vinegar and water or water and Epsom salts.
Use a tub or big basin of warm water to dissolve half a cup of Epsom salt, then soak for 10 to 20 minutes. Your skin loses moisture when you use epsom salt, which makes it harder for germs to survive.
Once a week, soak for 15 to 20 minutes in a tub or big bowl of warm water with a mixture of two parts water and one part vinegar. Both white vinegar and apple cider vinegar are acceptable. Bacteria can’t live on your skin because of vinegar. One word of caution: if the soak bothers your skin or if your feet have open sores, scrapes, or wounds, do not use it.
If you prefer the shower, be sure to thoroughly wash your feet with a washcloth and scrub in between your toes.
2. Keep your feet dry
In a tub or other container, add two parts water and one part vinegar for a vinegar soak. After bathing, soaking, or swimming, dry your feet thoroughly using any technique you like. Moisture causes unpleasant odors, therefore it’s crucial to keep feet, shoes, and socks as dry as possible. Put an extra pair of socks in your backpack in case your feet start to perspire throughout the day. Change your socks at lunch or after your workout. Choosing cotton socks and shoes made of natural materials like leather or cotton can also help keep your feet dry. The wetness on your foot is able to dissipate thanks to these natural materials. Moisture is trapped by man-made materials like nylon and plastic.
3. Disinfect your shoes
Even when you’re not wearing them, do your shoes emit a green cloud of odor? You are not required to discard them. The foul stench emanating from your sneakers may be eliminated with a multipurpose disinfectant spray similar to the one you use in your kitchen. Find a kitchen spray that has ethanol and other bacteria-killing sanitizing chemicals.
4. Use powder
Try using an over-the-counter foot antiperspirant if you find that your feet perspire. You may also use a homemade solution and fill your shoe with corn starch to keep your feet dry. Ask your doctor for a prescription for a foot moisture treatment if you can’t manage to get rid of the stench and it’s time to call in reinforcements.
5. Take care of your footwear
To allow your shoes to breathe, you shouldn’t wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. To make your shoes smell nicer, you may also wash the insoles. Applying a disinfectant spray to your shoes and allowing them to air dry are two other ways to help eliminate stinky feet. All the bacteria in your shoes will be eliminated by doing this.
